Put-In-Bay Ohio 43456, 43446 was important in the War of 1812 because it was the location of US naval commander Oliver Hazard Perry’s squadron, which departed from the port on September 10, 1813, to fight a British squadron just north of the island in the Battle of Lake Erie.
